Remember to never lose hope!

It was on 24 June 1987 that he was born in Santa Fe Province. When he was five, he began playing football for Grandoli, a club coached by his father. In 1995, he joined Newell’s Old Boys. He was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency when he was 11 years old.

It was strange to see that he was much shorter than the boys his age. He was always the smallest on the pitch or in school. At the age of 11, he was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency and had to seek medical treatment. Over the course of 3 years, he had to stick a needle into his legs every night. Although he was a great asset to his soccer club, his family couldn’t afford the treatment for long.

His life took an amazing turn after that. When he was 13, FC Barcelona offered to pay for his treatment if he played for them. His family moved to Spain with no money or job. The hope is that his treatment will make him big enough to play soccer. He is also a member of the Argentina national team. He made his first appearance for Barcelona when he was 16, becoming the youngest player to ever score for FC Barcelona on May 1, 2005. Argentina won the under-20 World Cup the same year, with him scoring on a pair of penalty kicks to defeat Nigeria.

Lionel Messi is known today as one of the greatest footballers of all time. We learn from his story that “Never Lose Hope”. You never know what tomorrow may bring. Believe in yourself.
